3 Sheldon square

LONDON

3 Sheldon Square represents those projects where JWD has been appointed to transform key spaces and building-identity without total demolition of the existing interior. Aviva wished to redefine this 10-year-old reception area ahead of remarketing office space within their 1 million sq ft development at Paddington Central. Through initial sketch work and discussion with the client, a brief was established in which ceilings, lighting, a high reception desk, internal doors, furniture, signage and heavy moulded wall panels would be replaced and the rest retained.

JWD created a blank canvas on which to imprint a fresh and elegant new identity for the building. The harmonious interplay of form, texture and colour now establishes a serene and welcoming environment. Strategic lighting at the entrance suggests a mezzanine and minimises the intrusion of the first floor office space into the volume of the reception. Within the reception, ambient lighting replaces the original fluorescents. Bespoke elements and a neutral finishes scheme of stone-coloured leather, white Corian and stainless steel are enlivened by lime furniture and lime perspex details in the desk.

Completed 2012

‘JWD apply an intelligent approach to building refurbishment and design problems. I have worked with Jo on two very different projects and appreciate her willingness to listen and fully understand the problem before working on a solution. She has creativity and vision, but is also resourceful and well able to work within the constraints of a budget and a fully occupied building. Moreover JWD understand the importance of long-term maintenance which is vital to the property management industry.'
